History of Salah Al-Din Temple No. 234View the Classes of Salah Al-Din Temple No. 234On April 2nd, 2008, Nobles from Magnus, Mocha, Mecca, Suakim, Al Kerak, Ararat, Anwar and Tuwa Temples came together to dialog on the feasibility of forming a Shrine Temple in Prince George's County, Maryland. An assessment of the geographic locations of the other five Temples in Maryland revealed that the other Temples were, on average, 25 miles away from the heart of the wealthiest and most affluent African American populated county in America. The group decided to move forward and solicit the assistance of the Imperial Council to form a Temple in Prince George's County just inside the Capital Beltway. On May 1st the Nobility held its first Shrine Club meeting where they voted on a temple name, officers and a scheduled meeting date all under the guidance of the Imperial Recorder Ronald Dickens. The Nobility elected Noble S. Raschid Muller as their first Illustrious Potentate, Noble Danny W. Pimienta as the Chief Rabban and Noble William A. Northern as the Assistant Rabban. The name Salah Al-Din was chosen in honor of the highly revered and respected fearless Islamic leader who recaptured Jerusalem in the second Crusade during the medieval times. The name Salah Al-Din translates into "righteousness of religion." On May 23, 2008, Imperial Potentate Dr. Ralph Slaughter, Imperial Deputy Imperial Potentate Oliver Washington Jr., Imperial Chief Rabban Donald R. Parks, Imperial Assistant Rabban Homer L. Buchanan, Imperial High Priest & Prophet Rochelle J. Julian, Imperial Oriental Guide Carl D. Parker, and Imperial Deputy of the Desert of Maryland Rudolph D. Smith, Jr. granted the Shrine Club a dispensation to become a Temple and empowered it to operate under the name of Salah Al-Din Temple U.D. in Landover, MD. During the 115th Imperial Session in Kansas City, MO, Salah Al-Din Temple No. 234 was granted its charter. It's first elected officers as a Temple were:
The Charter was granted to the Temple by the 37th Imperial Potentate Dr. Ralph Slaughter of Ismael Temple No. 154 on August 20, 2008.
